How you start your day matters, and establishing a good morning routine can set you up to have a productive day. A positive morning routine will help you start your day right and give you control over your day.
I notice a big difference in my productivity, focus, and mood on the days I follow my morning routine compared to the days I don’t. When I practice good morning habits, I start my day with intention, check more tasks off my to-do list, and feel better overall.
If you want to improve your morning routine, you have to try these healthy morning habits!

Best Healthy Morning Habits:
1. Wake up earlier
A good habit to start your morning is to wake up earlier. I totally get not being a morning person, so I’m not going to tell you to wake up at 5 a.m., but waking up 20 – 30 minutes earlier will give you more time to start your day.
2. No phone in the morning
Our phones hold a ton of information – news, social media, emails, and texts. Being bombarded with information as soon as you wake up is not a good way to start the day.
According to Forbes, scrolling on your phone as soon as you wake up immediately forces your brain to be alert and wide awake, and if you see or read something negative in the morning it can trigger your stress response for the rest of the day.
So try not to scroll on your phone for at least one hour upon waking.
3. Get some sun
Morning sun exposure has numerous benefits. It can help you wake up naturally, sleep better, and feel better overall. Huberman Lab recommends getting 5 – 10 minutes of morning sunlight on sunny days and 15 – 20 minutes of morning sunlight on cloudy days.
I notice a big difference in how I feel on the days I get morning sunlight compared to the days that I don’t. Some simple ways you can add sunlight to your morning routine are drinking your morning coffee outside, going for a walk, or simply sitting on your porch.
4. Move your body
Put on some music and move your body. You can dance, go for a walk, do a home work out, or stretch. I love to exercise early in the day. It helps me feel like I got something accomplished and gives me an energy boost.
5. Think of (at least) one thing you are grateful for
Think of at least one thing you are grateful for – it can be something big or small.
I find expressing gratitude helps me instantly feel good and start my day with a positive mindset.

6. Eat something delicious and nutritious
Make a breakfast you enjoy and feel good eating. One way to make cooking breakfast more fun is to listen to your favorite feel-good songs while you cook. Giving yourself enough time to cook and eat your breakfast without rushing is also important.
Some of my favorite breakfasts are:
- yogurt with fruit and granola
- potatoes and eggs with avocado
- an omelette filled with veggies
7. Journal
Journaling in the morning is a great way to set your intentions for the day and start your day with a positive mindset. I use this gratitude journal in the morning, and I love it because it helps me start each morning with a grateful mind.
8. Listen to or read something that inspires you
Start your day listening to something that inspires you. You can listen to a book, podcast, TED talk, or even music. Find something to listen to that motivates you to be your best self.
Atomic Habits and The Four Agreements are my favorite books to read in the morning.
My favorite podcasts to listen to for inspiration are:
- The BossBabe Podcast
- Not Your Typical With Katelynn Nolan
- Life With Marianna
- The Skinny Confidential
- On Purpose With Jay Shetty
9. Make a to-do list
Another good habit to start in the morning is to make a to-do list for your day. This will help you organize your brain. Making a to-do list will also help you stay on track and get things done.
10. Say positive affirmations
Positive affirmations are a great way to start your morning. They are a great way to speak positivity into your day and boost your confidence.
My favorite positive morning affirmations are:
- I am unstoppable
- I believe in myself
- I love myself
- I trust myself
- I can do anything
11. Take time to get ready
The last good morning habit I recommend is to take time to put yourself together. Wear clothes you feel confident in and put effort into doing your hair and makeup (if you like to wear it). When I put effort into how I look, I will feel more confident and ready to take on the day.
Things To Remember When Creating Healthy Morning Habits:
- A healthy morning routine will look different for each person, so you can try different habits and pick which ones work best for you.
- Pay attention to the habits that make you feel good. Keep these habits in your morning routine!
- Give yourself grace when starting, it won’t be easy to stick to a morning routine at first, but once you start practicing healthy morning habits daily, it will get easier.
