HERE ARE 11 FREE SELF CARE IDEAS YOU NEED TO TRY.
1. Have a lazy day
Schedule a day once a month (or whenever you need it) to have a lazy day.
On your lazy day, take a day off from doing all the things, or at least do as little as possible.
When I have a lazy day, I like to order take-out, so I don’t have to worry about cleaning up or cooking. I do as little cleaning as possible, and I don’t make any big plans for the day.
I have found that having a lazy day helps me feel refreshed, and I am actually more productive on the following days.
So, here is your reminder to schedule a lazy day now and then!
2. Take a nap
Can someone please tell me why children don’t like naps? I definitely regret not taking more naps as a kid (lol).
When you find yourself overtired, overworked, or overwhelmed you may benefit from taking a nap. Taking a nap is a good way to squeeze in a little extra sleep.
If you are not able to nap but are in need of some extra shut-eye, you can try sleeping in or going to bed earlier.
3. Stay off social media for a day
This is one of my best simple and free self care ideas.
Social media can be super distracting and draining. If you feel yourself becoming consumed with social media, it may be a good idea to stop looking at it for a day or so.
Pay attention to how you feel when looking at your feed, and if you don’t feel inspired or good about what you are looking at, you should hit unfollow.
Use social media to inspire you, but don’t let it consume you.
4. Declutter your space
If you find yourself feeling stressed and disorganized, a messy environment can make you feel more stressed. Decluttering your space can help you clear your mind.
Start by decluttering the space you spend the most time in.
5. Journal
Journaling is one of my favorite free self care activities.
Writing your thoughts down on paper is a great way to clear your mind and vent.
I find journaling extremely helpful when I have a lot on my mind and need a release.
6. Go for a walk
Most of us know walking is great for our overall health, but it is also great for our minds.
I had to add going for daily walks to my mom self care routine. Sometimes, the best medicine for our mind is the sun, fresh air, and time in nature.
7. Deep breathing
Deep breathing is a simple self care practice anyone can do. Sit up straight and focus on taking deep breaths for a few moments.
I have found practicing deep breathing before bed each night helps me feel less anxious and more relaxed.
Everyone should add deep breathing to their daily self care checklist to help with anxious feelings.
8. Call a friend
Catch up with an old friend over the phone for an easy self care idea.
As adults, we can get so busy, but make it a priority to call and chat with a good friend when you can.
Catching up with old friends always lifts my spirits.
9. Exercise
Move your body! Do a workout video, dance, or run on the treadmill!
Exercise is a self care activity we all need to make time for.
Exercising can lift your mood and make you feel energized.
10. Listen to music
One of my go-to self care ideas for stress is to listen to music.
I swear I feel like music solves 90% of my problems.
Listen to uplifting or relaxing music to feel better and get your mind off of things.
11. Stretch
Stretching not only feels good, but it is also a good way to keep your muscles strong and healthy.
Stretching is a simple self care idea that is good for your mind and body!
Doing stretches is a good way to relax before bed or get you ready to conquer your day.
I recommend searching stretching exercises on youtube to find the ones that work best for you!
My favorite self care items (the self care products that I use daily):
- Back and neck massager (click to view on Amazon) – This is probably my all time favorite self care item I have bought. I use it while I work on my computer, watch t.v., and pretty much whenever I can. I love that it’s heated, and although it says it’s a back and neck massager I use it on my legs as well.
- Gratitude journal (click to view on Amazon) – This is the first gratitude journal I have bought, and I love it so far. It helps me start each day with a positive mindset.
