This post is all about how to destress and relax before bed.
Bedtime isn’t always as calm and relaxing as it should be, especially if you are a mom. As a mom of two little ones, my nights usually consist of making sure my kids have a snack, take a bath, and brush their teeth. Once that is done, I read bedtime stories, answer 100 questions, and try to get them to sleep.
Moms have way too much on their plate, and I know all too well that just because the kids are asleep doesn’t mean you get to sit down and relax (although I totally don’t blame you if you do).
If you also find it hard to destress and relax before bed, I am here to help. I created a list of relaxing things to do before bed that will actually help you feel less stressed. This list will help you relax before bed and have a more peaceful night.
How to destress and relax before bed:
One – make a to-do list
Since our main job as mothers is to take care of other people, our minds are constantly filled with things we need to get done. It can be hard to relax when you have to try and remember everything on your to-do list. This is why I highly recommend making a to-do list each night before bed. When you write down the things you need to get done, either on paper or a device, it helps to get it out of your head. It also gives you a clear list of things you need to do, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting something important.
Two – stretch
Another great way to relax is to do some stretches before bed. If you are not sure what kind of stretches to do, I recommend looking up videos on youtube. You can find a lot of helpful videos there and find the video that works best for you. This will help calm your body and get you ready for a peaceful night.

Three – meditate
Meditation is a great way to calm your mind and body. There are many different ways to meditate. I like to follow a guided meditation on youtube or meditate on my own in a quiet place. Meditation does take some practice, but it can really help calm your mind down. If you are not sure where to start, try sitting or lying down in a quiet place and focus on taking long deep breaths.
More Relaxation Tips…
- Put your phone away one hour before bedtime. Our phones can be super distracting and time-consuming. Try to put your phone on the charger for the night at least one hour before bedtime. This is helpful if you are one of those people who lose track of time scrolling social media late at night (I am definitely guilty of this).
- Try drinking a nighttime tea a couple of hours before bed. My favorite nighttime tea is chamomile tea – I drink it with a little honey and a splash of oat milk (it is so good)!
