As a mom of two, I often feel overwhelmed. When you are responsible for other people, life can be hectic and sometimes just plain crazy (if I’m honest).
After a long day of caring for my kids (with little sleep), I found it hard to wind down and relax. I would often feel anxious at night and craved calmness.
I have tried many different things to relax and today I am sharing my tried and true most helpful relaxation ideas.
This post is all about relaxing hobbies you can do at home.

RELAXING THINGS TO DO AT HOME:
1. Drink chamomile tea
Drinking warm tea is one of my favorite ways to relax. Chamomile tea is delicious on its own as it has a lightly sweet floral taste, but I love adding honey and a splash of oat milk to make it creamy and sweet.
2. Listen to calm and relaxing music
I find it extremely relaxing to listen to spa music (you can find a lot of playlists on youtube).
3. Watch a light-hearted T.V. show
Watching a light feel-good show is one of my absolute favorite relaxing things to do at home. I find it most relaxing to watch shows that don’t have too much drama or thrill. I usually end up re-watching shows I’ve already seen before since I know what to expect. My favorite shows to watch when I am trying to relax are Young and Hungry, Baby Daddy, and Gilmore Girls.

4. Read or listen to a book
Reading in a cozy spot is one of the best relaxing things to do by yourself. I like to read poetry and self-help books to relax after a long day.
I am currently reading Atomic Habits, and I love it. It’s a must-read if you want to learn simple ways to build new positive habits.
5. Meditate
Meditation is one of the relaxation ideas I find most helpful when I want to slow my mind down and focus on the present. I find it best to listen to a guided meditation on youtube when I am trying to relax at home.
6. Color
Did you know they make adult coloring books? Well, they do, and coloring is a great way to calm down. This is also a good nighttime activity to get kids to settle down before bed.

7. Cook your favorite comfort meal
If you enjoy cooking, this is a great way to relax and enjoy a nourishing meal! I like to make my favorite meals from my childhood since they bring back good memories.
8. Call a friend
One of the most fun and relaxing things to do at home is to chat and catch up with a friend or family member over the phone.

9. Write
I find it extremely calming to write down my feelings and thoughts. I like to do this whenever I am feeling overwhelmed. Writing down your thoughts on paper is a good way to clear your mind.
10. Take a bath
Run a warm bath and add some Epsom salt for a little added relaxation to calm your body and mind. I recommend lighting a few candles and dimming the lights for a more relaxed vibe.
