The truth about motherhood is that it’s hard.
Let’s face it—being a mom can be overwhelming at times. It’s a constant juggling act of parenting, work, errands, and the responsibilities of life, all of which leave us feeling drained, empty, and desperate for a break.
Neglecting your own needs can result in burnout and exhaustion, often leaving you feeling as if you are trapped in a constant state of survival mode. This is why taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential.
In this post, I will share practical self care tips to help you recharge, refocus, and rediscover what makes you feel good.

Self Care Tips For Moms:
1. Keep up with your annual check-ups and exams
This is not your typical self care tip, but it’s absolutely necessary. As moms, we tend to put others first, but we must stop neglecting ourselves, especially our health. Schedule that check-up or dentist visit to stay on top of your health and overall well-being!
2. Let go of perfectionism
Did you know that perfectionism is a form of self-sabotage? According to Very Well Mind, holding yourself to impossible standards will cause delays and setbacks. Work on releasing the need to be super mom. The pressure of being the perfect mom is overwhelming and will lead to burnout and a never-ending cycle of self-doubt. The truth is perfection is unattainable and it’s okay to be imperfect, you are human, after all. When you release the need for control, you’ll create space for self-compassion and peace.
3. Find a hobby that fills your cup
Having hobbies has real health benefits. Web MD suggests that hobbies can reduce stress, improve mental health, foster relationships (when done with others), and improve your overall well-being. Having a hobby is a great way to prioritize self care and have an identity outside of motherhood. Whether it’s reading, crocheting, or learning something new, a hobby can provide a sense of accomplishment and be an outlet for creativity. Making time for your hobbies will remind you that you are your own person with interests and desires that deserve nurturing.

4. Follow a routine
Following a daily routine can be immensely beneficial for your self care. Having a plan and knowing what to expect each day can reduce stress and add structure to your life. Routines also make it easy to prioritize important tasks and stay focused which will help you accomplish more. When you manage your time well, you will have more time to allocate for self-care activities that fill your cup. Experiment with different routines to find what works best for you and your family.

5. Get in some exercise
Exercise has countless health benefits and can help you manage your weight, improve your mood, strengthen your muscles and bones, improve brain function and health, increase your energy, and much more. Make it a priority to move your body every day to maximize your self-care! You could walk around your neighborhood, head to your local gym, or simply do a workout at home.
6. Spend time in nature
Did you know that spending time in nature could benefit your mental health? According to the Mayo Clinic, spending time in nature can help alleviate stress and serve as an effective coping strategy for those with anxiety or depression. Getting outdoors and breathing fresh air while feeling the sun on your skin and hearing birds chirping is a grounding experience for sure. For your next self care activity, try walking in a park or sitting in a garden to disconnect from the demands of daily life and reconnect with yourself.
7. Journal your thoughts
Motherhood comes with a lot of emotions. It can look different for each person and we all have unique experiences and feelings when it comes to being a mom. Journaling can provide you with a safe space to express and understand your thoughts and emotions. This is one of my favorite self care activities because all you need is a pen and paper to start.
8. Socialize with other adults
Find time to socialize with other adults to avoid feeling isolated. Plan a coffee date with your favorite friend, take a walk, or start a book club. Good friendships can help boost your confidence and give you a sense of belonging. Making time to socialize allows moms time to connect with others, expand their support network, and feel happier overall.
9. Make yourself a priority
Don’t be afraid to make yourself a priority. Many moms put everyone else’s needs above their own, and it can lead to resentment and burnout. Moms need to make themselves a priority because their well-being is crucial and impacts their family. When moms make time for real self care they become better and happier overall.
10. Be kind to yourself
Being kind to yourself is the most important self care act you will do. Treating yourself with kindness and compassion will help you cultivate a supportive relationship with yourself. You are the only person who truly knows how you feel and what you go through which is why it is so important to have a healthy and fulfilling relationship with yourself. Start being kinder to yourself by reducing negative self-talk, stop comparing yourself or your life to others, and prioritize your well-being. Self-care is not only about what you do, but also how you treat yourself.
Self care is not one size fits all, so experiment and find what tips work best for you. Once you find what works for you, make it a non-negotiable part of your daily routine. Remember, Mom, you are one of your greatest investments! Don’t be afraid to make yourself a priority and treat yourself with care.
